Sexual Assaults in Fraternity Houses
Many studies have shown that fraternity men are “three times more likely to commit rape than other men on college campuses” (CNN). Another study found that women in sororities are “74% more likely to experience rape than any other college women” (Vox). In 2021 alone, many fraternities’ members from different schools were involved in alleged rape cases, which prompted a wave of protests and demand for action from schools’ administration.

Sexual Assaults in Fraternity Houses | Greek and Campus Life
According to a report on the Association of American Universities Campus Climate Survey on Sexual Assault and Misconduct, 10.7% of all sexual assaults (involving penetration) reported by students took place in a fraternity house. When it comes to incidents involving sexual touching reported by undergraduate women, the number is even higher: 20.1% took place in fraternity houses.
The same report also shows that, for male students, 6.4% of sexual assault involving penetration and 9.6% of sexual assaults involving sexual touching happened in a fraternity house. For TGQN (transgender, genderqueer, nonconforming) students, those numbers raise to 6.7% and 12.6% respectively.
According to 3 studies (one by John Foubert), whether in a fraternity house or not, “fraternity men are three times more likely to rape.”
Another shocking study shows that “Women in sororities are 74% more likely to experience rape than other college women, and those who live in sorority houses are over 3 times as likely to experience rape. (Source)”
These number only add to RAINN’s statistics on Campus Sexual Violence in general:
- Among graduate and professional students, 9.7% of females and 2.5% of males experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation;
- Among undergraduate students, 26.4% of females and 6.8% of males experience rape or sexual assault through physical force, violence, or incapacitation;
- 23.1% of TGQN (transgender, genderqueer, nonconforming) college students have been sexually assaulted.

We work almost all of our cases under contingent fee arrangements. If we take your case under a contingent fee arrangement, you won’t owe our firm any legal fees unless we are able to recover money for you.
Our contingent fee is either based on a percentage of the amount we recover for our client (which generally ranges from one-third of the recovery up to 40%) or the amount of work we perform on your case, multiplied by our current hourly rates. The percentage we will charge in your case depends on the type of case, when your case resolves, and whether you request us to advance litigation costs (including filing fees, postage, expert witness fees, etc.). Generally, the percentage is higher if we are advancing litigation costs and your case does not resolve early.
In most litigation matters, it is extremely difficult – practically impossible – to predict how long or how many hours will it take to resolve a particular case. Every case is different in terms of the complexity. For instance, a simple breach of contract matter is likely to get resolved significantly faster than a complicated lawsuit involving multiple parties, numerous claims, complex issues of law, and extensive discovery. The other parties’ cooperation, the attorneys’ schedules, as well as the number of other cases on the court’s docket are also the factors.
